Known for her genre-blending “traumedies”—dramas that masquerade as comedies until delivering an emotional gut punch—Erin crafts thematically rich, often surreal or suspenseful stories. Her work is especially well-suited to students developing emotionally grounded narratives that walk the line between humor and drama. Many of her stories feature ensemble casts and center characters whose spiritual faith, personal identity, or ambitions are deconstructed and reconstructed.
As a writer, Erin adapted the best-selling novel Moments Like This by actor Kristoffer Polaha (Wonder Woman ’84) and is currently working on multiple projects with Hallmark. She’s developing a feature adaptation of her award-winning short film Rekindled with Maven Screen Media (The Kids Are All Right, American Honey). Her serialized writing credits include four episodes of Peacock Kids’ Teensy Tiny DIY Show. Erin’s screenwriting has been widely recognized: she is a Nicholl Semifinalist, and her dramedy The Body of Chris was ranked 16th out of over 24,000 comedies on Coverfly’s Red List. Her unproduced work has advanced in top industry programs and competitions including Austin Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, BlueCat, Scriptapalooza, ISA Fast Track, Imagine Impact, Sundance New Voices, and SeriesFest’s Shondaland Women in Film Mentorship.
As a filmmaker, Erin’s shorts and independent pilots have screened competitively at AMPAV at Cannes, been nominated at Austin Film Festival, and taken home top prizes at Catalyst Story Institute. Her short film [subtext] has won ten awards—primarily Audience Awards—including at Walla Walla Movie Crush, beating out Sundance selections and Oscar-nominated films. Another of her shorts, But First…, earned her an Artist in Residence at Palm Springs International ShortFest and a Juried Award at Cinequest. Erin was also the 2025 recipient of the “Shorts In Focus” award at the Oscar-qualifying Cleveland International Film Festival and a finalist for Shondaland’s Women-In-Film Mentorship through SeriesFest. Her work has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, been curated by Vimeo, and been supported by Film Independent’s fiscal sponsorship program.
Erin’s producing credits include the Freestyle-distributed fantasy feature Shedding and Chasers, which she also co-wrote and directed. She has shadowed on CBS’s Young Sheldon and Nickelodeon’s All That, and she brings an editor’s precision to her storytelling, having collaborated with DGA, BAFTA, and Emmy-winning directors as well as talent like Lena Dunham, Elisabeth Moss, Selena Gomez, and Emmy Rossum.
Beyond her own creative work, Erin is the co-founder and Artistic Director of the Salute Your Shorts Film Festival, where she champions emerging talent—solidifying her role as a mentor and advocate in the independent film industry. Her YouTube channel, Versatile Assassins, has 103K subscribers. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband Jake Thomas, a working writer, their two cats, and an enthusiastic number of thriving plants.
